DUBLIN & BOSTON - (Business Wire) The recently announced Irish tech blogger of the year Pat Phelan (www.patphelan.net) has forecast that iPhone has peaked and that the era of Android has arrived. Phelan, who in the day job is director of products and innovation at global mobile communications provider, Cubic Telecom put his neck on the line at the end of 2008 and predicted that "Android would blow away iPhone".
Android is Google's mobile operating system. Phelan quotes recent data from Admob, one of the world's largest mobile advertising platforms, which shows that Android has almost matched the iPhone which had a 12 month head start on it.
"Mobile web enquiries are head to head in the USA with iPhone maintaining a tiny lead over the young upstart Android," comments Phelan.
"It now appears that Google's gamble with Android being an operating system rather than Apple's over a single device is now paying off hugely. With an estimated 50 models of mobile phone to ship in 2010 preloaded with the Android operating system the days of the iPhone being the high end device of choice may be at an end."
