VIDEO: Cubic Telecom 2019 The Year in Review
2019 marked Cubic’s breakthrough into connecting the emerging EV market, and was a record year for internal growth
What a year 2019 was at Cubic Telecom! From securing €23.5M in funding from the European Investment Bank to setting up a new office in Detroit, we have captured the highlights of 2019 at a glance in the above video.
Driving the Cubic company culture
We kicked off 2019 by expanding our Senior Leadership Team to six people with the appointment of the new Chief People Officer Gillian French. With this came a fresh focus on developing our company culture. We are continuously encouraged to live the Cubic values through our work – enthusiasm, helping others, being thorough and adopting a results-focused approach – and supported through CPD opportunities.
During 2019 we expanded our team with 38 new Cubicans, now representing 27 nationalities of the world. Something I find unique at Cubic is the diversity in the office and strong communication between staff here despite the merging of so many different cultures!
Our wonderful Sports and Social Committee had a big part to play in maintaining a positive company culture throughout the year. As you can see from the video, they kept us fed, watered, and busy with new and unusual activities. I find these events valuable for connecting with members of other teams that I don’t necessarily get to interact with on a day-to-day basis.
Are friends electric?
2019 was the year of electrification with Cubic signing contracts to connect electric motorcycles, electric cars, and electric commercial fleets. Our team performed exceptionally well, inking deals with Arrival, e.GO, Microsoft, Panasonic Automotive, and Skoda. Not a bad customer portfolio!
In terms of our connected car footprint, we doubled the number of European countries we operate in and made plans to expand to Canada and UAE through partnerships with Rogers and Etisalat – giants in the telecommunications world.
We now connect millions of cars and EVs across 93 countries. In fact, our network activity increased so much in 2019 on our busiest day, we registered a car to our network every 5 seconds!
We attended key industry events throughout the year, including annual favourites CES and MWC. At Microsoft Inspire we launched our new zero-touch provisioning capability and collaborated again with Microsoft at the IAA in Frankfurt. Our Cubic-hosted parties got especially popular in 2019 and can be a refreshing way to relax and unwind, catching up with customers during lively industry shows.
Members of our team were invited to speak at several industry events too – sharing the Cubic experience to date and predictions for the future. Engaging in speaking slots is a great way to build relationships and share our industry knowledge with companies seeking to connect products globally.
CSR at Cubic
A notable achievement in 2019 was thinking outside the box for our fundraising efforts. A group selflessly shaved their heads in support of Cancer Trials Ireland, raising a remarkable €30,000. CSR is something that can make a valuable impact if carried out correctly and I look forward to seeing what novel fundraisers 2020 has in store in for Cubic.
Overall the success of 2019 comes down to all our team members working consistently towards common goals throughout the year, and a culture of collaboration and innovation being fostered here. It was eventful and we’re now eager to see what 2020 holds.
