It’s been another fantastic year of furthering global software-defined vehicle connectivity for Cubic. As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the news, partnerships, and developments that have brought us one step closer to a software-defined world.

Innovative industry events around the world

To kick off 2024, our team was on the ground at CES. The world’s most influential tech event had no shortage of cutting-edge innovations in the software and services that make connected vehicle technology possible. After Las Vegas, our team then jetted to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain where top tech and telecom pioneers showcased the latest developments in connectivity such as 5G, 6G, OpenRAN, and LiFi– the core technologies underpinning the much-discussed AI boom.

A natural next step in demonstrating our commitment to providing global automotive connectivity, Cubic joined the esteemed 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), a global cross-industry association that bridges the automotive and telecommunication industries to address society’s connected mobility needs. Within the 5GAA, Cubic is integrating smarter, safer, and environmentally sustainable services and solutions, into intelligent road transportation and traffic management.

The industry-event momentum carried our team back to our home base of Ireland in Q2. At TRA Dublin 2024, the Cubic product team spoke about how Cooperative Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) will revolutionise travel through V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication, making our roads safer, more inclusive, and more sustainable.

Another key component of bringing global automotive connectivity to life is the optimisation of the OEM business model. In May, industry leaders came together at Automotive Europe 2024 to discuss and develop strategies for monetisation across the entire vehicle lifecycle while delivering SDV sustainability targets.

To close out Q2, our team took part in another exciting panel discussion at AutoTech Detroit on “The Role of Ubiquitous Connectivity in an Era of software-defined vehicles.” The panel focused on the technologies enhancing in-car experiences, enabling real-time data exchange, and the implications for both the OEM and the consumer.

Honourable connection across borders with strategic partners

In H2 our focus was to further develop our strategic partnerships for expansion into satellite connectivity integration. Central to this was our role in bringing seamless connectivity for General Motors’ (GM) Cadillac electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem across Europe, most recently in Germany. Cadillac drivers across over 30 European markets can stay connected, maintaining access to navigation, data, and other infotainment features without interruptions when crossing borders thanks to Cubic.

We were also honored in Q3 by the visit of His Excellency, Mr. Norio Maruyama, the Ambassador of Japan to our office in Ireland. His Excellency took part in the celebration of our strategic global partnership with SoftBank Corp. in December 2023. Last year, Cubic and SoftBank Corp., headquartered in Tokyo, signed an agreement to pioneer the future of software-defined vehicles (SDVs). In another recognition of our work with SoftBank Corp., Cubic was honoured to be shortlisted for Best Strategic Acquisition at the 2024 Global Connectivity Awards hosted by Capacity Media.

In part of our continued celebration of partnership and support for SoftBank Corp.’s “Beyond Japan” initiative, Cubic leadership played an integral role at SoftBank World in Japan. The team showcased our high-value mobile assets, integral to enabling the deployment of AI-driven services across various sectors, including automotive, agriculture, and transportation.

In another push to grow global connectivity, Cubic expanded capabilities into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) through new strategic partnerships with telecom giants Ooredoo Group and stc Group. Our alliances here help address major regulatory challenges in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. With our solution, OEMs can more easily enter these markets with an all-in-one single-point solution for their connectivity needs.

To close out this exciting year, in December we announced yet another strategic partnership with telecom giant, Skylo Technologies. The pioneer of non-terrestrial network connectivity, Skylo has partnered with Cubic to enhance NTN use cases for emergency communications. The integration of Skylo’s satellite technologies with our advanced software-defined vehicle solutions will support emergency response teams with reliable coverage and ultimately aid in saving lives.

We are immensely proud of the Cubic team’s accomplishments in 2024, expanding global, seamless connectivity to new regions and partners. While the journey to deploy global software-defined vehicle connectivity is far from over, we’re excited to continue driving progress in 2025.
