Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 has begun today in Barcelona and the technology world is buzzing with anticipation for one of the year’s most influential events. With the spotlight on innovation, what can we expect to see across the automotive and transport space?

AI-powered smart cars

Acquired by Geely in 2022, Meizu, the Chinese smartphone OEM, is set to showcase a range of products this year. With a theme of “AI Illuminates a Better Life,” the company is focused on three core areas: smart glasses, smartphones, and smart cars. Based on Flyme AIOS technology, they aim to seamlessly integrate AI into vehicles, giving customers enhanced connectivity options and user experience. Expect to also see similar innovation in vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, as automakers and their suppliers seek smoother interactions between cars, infrastructure, and other road users.

AI-RAN Alliance celebrates one year anniversary

Further highlighting the impact of AI, this year’s MWC will see the AI-RAN Alliance mark one year since its inception. Focused on accelerating AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence-Radio Access Networks) development and adoption, they will present ten real-world use cases demonstrating how the technology optimises performance, enhances energy efficiency, and enables next-generation automation. These solutions will be key to the future of smart transportation and logistics not least when it comes to predictive maintenance, where using AI to analyse vehicle data can help prevent breakdowns, improve reliability, and reduce downtime.

Next-gen trucking solutions

The trucking industry is undergoing a massive digital transformation, as fleets become more willing to invest in AI. At MWC, NVIDIA will showcase how its AI-RAN solution will stake a claim in the electric and autonomous truck market.

5G connectivity, with its ability to enable real-time communication between trucks and logistics centres, will also be high on the agenda in Barcelona while demos of smart dashboards to AI-powered assistance systems that reduce fatigue and boost productivity during long drives, will also be on show.

Powering precision farming

From autonomous machinery to real-time crop monitoring, connectivity is key to helping farmers make data-driven decisions, reduce waste, and enhance sustainability.

This year at MWC, VIAVI Solutions, which manufacturers testing and monitoring equipment for networks, will showcase its all-in-one solution for continuous edge testing and monitoring at scale, helping rural areas benefit from connectivity. Meanwhile on the floor, drone and autonomous machinery will showcase how these technologies can monitor crop health, automate planting, and improve resource management.
