How smart connectivity is powering the software-defined vehicle revolution

The automotive industry is undergoing a complete physical and digital transformation.

The automotive industry is undergoing a complete physical and digital transformation. As the industry “shifts left” automakers must now design hardware and software in tandem while at the same time “extend right” initiatives are focused on providing security assurance for the life of the vehicle and generating revenue by leveraging over-the-air capabilities.

The ability to update new and existing fleets of vehicles over-the air is a key challenge for automakers. To address this the industry is moving away from bolt-on telecom modules to use of an integrated, connected software platform which allows OEMs to update vehicles seamlessly over-the-air.

As the software-defined vehicle (SDV)continues to evolve, automakers now need to incorporate connectivity into their thinking early in their SDV product definition. This will have multiple benefits for car manufacturers including the ability to leverage eSIM capabilities, delivery of cybersecurity protection for the entire lifecycle of the vehicle, and enhancement of digital services which will enable greater consumer adoption of software-defined vehicles.
